“Die Presse” reports on a new microscopy method developed by the head of the Imaging Unit Philipp Velicky
A new method that combines high-end optics with deep learning and computer vision for the first time allows to visualize living brain tissue in its entirety down to the level of individual synapses in 3D. In addition, dynamic processes and neuronal activity can be captured on the nanometer scale. The work, in which Oscar-prize winner Bernd Bickel also participated, was published in the top journal Nature Methods and first author Philipp Velicky was recently awarded the “Significant Milestone Award 2024” by the Wilhelm Exner Foundation.
